When Mom decides it's time to decorate the house for Christmas, she doesn't realize a mouse family has taken up residence in the decoration box out in the garage. Dad and Tony get the box inside, and so starts a wild adventure for Baxter mouse and his family. Baxter's house is destroyed. A cat catches and plays with him. He's scooped up and tossed outside. His now homeless family is in danger from pouncing cats, so Baxter saves them all and settles them in a new, safer home.

A nice blend of wild mouse-life and mousily interrupted family life makes this book a fun read to share with children. A magically decorated mouse-house is introduced, but where could it be? What are the curious noises outside? And how will Baxter rescue his family while Mom and Dad and kids and cats go crazy? Illustrator Vicki Rushing uses very different styles of art for the different points of view – our world seen huge, mouse-world seen small, depending on whether mice or people are in charge of this scene in the tale. The events are pleasingly plausible. The rescue is cleverly neat. The characters, human and animal, are very real. And the story leaves plenty of chances for kids to ask and guess. I can imagine it being read aloud to a school group or a family, the reader pausing and wondering where it’s going, while the children shout out what they know.Disclosure: I found it when it was free so I bought it.

This is a sweet story, that has two perspectives. The humans and the mice. Tess, Tony, mom and dad are getting ready to decorate for Christmas. Baxter and his family live in the box of Christmas decorations. When the mice family is discovered they are thrown out side, now being cold and close to Christmas they have to find a new home.
This in the words of my 8 year old is awesome. She was sad when Baxter was caught, but happy he got put outside to find a new home.
This is a fun Christmasy story to read with your kids this time of year.

This one will be a family favorite for a long time to come.
I gave this book to my great granddaughter and she thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is perfect and the illustrations were great.
